ZitatThis is specific to the new play test Unearthed Arcana document for character rules.

• Adding a character origins, character building, feature. Covers race, background and lvl one feats.

• New versions of PHB races. Likely similar to newer races we've seen in the last few books. You can expect to find familiar racial features as well as new ones.

• Tiefling "subraces" are based on the different lower plane of existence their legacy comes from. Not just from the Nine Hells anymore.

• New race called the Ardlings. A people touched by the outer planes, like Tieflings and Aasimar, but like the new Tieflings they will be from a variety of upper planes. They have the faces of animals. Meant to be similar to Guardinals or Archons from previous editions. Will have limited flight.

• Orc will be in this new PHB as well. Will be the same as in Monsters of the Multiverse.

• You will have the ability to have characters with parents of two different humanoid races, beyond the ones we are familiar with. Seems to be mostly aesthetics based, with one parent having the dominate traits you use in game.

• Backgrounds will be more important now, and more customizable. Will be more mix and match from lists of features, with prebuilt samples available. +2/+1 ability modifiers, in the past associated with race, will now be attached to background. They will be "floating", allowing you to place them anywhere. Equipment packages for backgrounds will be updated to be more pick and choose, but also all backgrounds will have the same value of starting equipment.

• Backgrounds now come with 1st level feats. Feats will now have level prerequisites. So no Lucky or Great Weapon Master feats at level 1. First level feats will not have ability score increases, but higher level ones may. Will be adding new 1st level feats that give flavor to the background.

• Cultural elements that are represented in game and mechanics are moving from races to backgrounds. An example being that there are no longer "mountain" or "hill" dwarves, as those were cultural separations. Those differences and options will be within Backgrounds now.

• Race designs and features will mirror and work with what we see in Monsters of the Multiverse. New PHB races are meant to represent the most archetypical and common, with MotM having more specific variations.

• Some feats will be revised, and some will be brand new. Revisions are meant to enhance the abilities of the "archetypical" user of the feat, as well as give useful options for those who aren't. Some will have options that can benefit the whole party. New feats are meant to fill in character architype gaps.

• Spells have new groupings, with three new spell lists; the Arcane, Divine, and Primal spell lists. These will be referenced in things not tied to class; such as racial spells, magic items, and feats. As new classes, spells, and features are added, this should make it easier to incorporate spells into those things.

• Conditions will be revised with a new one, slowed.

• Inspiration will be revised. Will not be solely given by DMs, but can be reliability gained via rolling a nat 20. Reminds me of momentum mechanics in other games. You can give inspiration to other players when you gain it, so if you already have one, the one gained won't go to waste. Humans gain an inspiration at the end of a long rest. Meant to encourage use of inspiration instead of hording it. Not stated in the video, but you also lose unused inspiration at the end of a long rest.

• Crit hits will be revised. They are looking into ways to separate effects of crit hits between weapon attacks and spell attacks. Weapon attacks will function mostly as it was before. They are looking for player feedback on spell crits. Crit hits are for players now. Monsters/enemies will get something else, like recharge abilities being recharged. They are looking for feedback.

• Crit success or failure will no longer be only for attack rolls, but saves and ability checks.

• Everything here is subject to change, based on feedback.

• All of this is meant to work with the 5.0e books you already have.

• More UAs to come.

For those about to GURPS - We salute you!
